Dear Alumni and Friends of Florida Bible College!
We are excited to announce the new beginning of Florida Bible College with its first classes to start August 29, 2016. The sovereign hand of God has been upon our institution in a wonderful way over the past three years of praying, planning, and preparing for the opening of the school. Under His direction and confident of His provision, we embark upon an exciting new era.
Our commitment is to prepare men and women to take the gospel clearly and the Word of God correctly into every person’s world. They will learn what it is to love Jesus Christ completely and to love others compassionately.
You will be pleased to know Florida Bible College is built on the foundations of a passion for Jesus Christ and His glory, sound doctrine, local and global mission, and an attitude of grace. Students will be able to earn a One-Year Certificate, a Two-Year Associates Degree, and a Bachelors in Biblical Studies Degree. Students may also choose from seven minors for specialized ministry concentration!
May I invite you to visit the brand-new Florida Bible College website at www.floridabiblecollege.com where you will discover what the Lord is doing through FBC to prepare the next generation of champions for Jesus Christ!
For the glory of God alone!
Florida Bible College
The Board of Trustees of Florida Bible College has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to bring to fruition the dream that many of you have shared with us for the better part of two decades a new beginning for Florida Bible College. We are grateful to the many faithful partners who have supported us and our efforts prayerfully and financially.
On behalf of the Board it is my distinct privilege to make two significant announcements today.
Dr. Ponz is the founder and president of Make It Clear Ministries (an international teaching, speaking, and resource ministry) that began in 1973. A pastor since 1983, he has served congregations in south Texas, rural upstate New York, southern California, and now Hawaii. In addition to his faculty appointment at FBC, Stan has taught at Texas Bible College, Word of Life Bible Institute, and Moody Bible Institute. You may view his complete vita on the Florida Bible College website.
Our Academic Committee has completed its work in writing our complete four-year curriculum. Certificate and Degree plans and complete course descriptions are available online at www.floridabiblecollege.com. The website also contains links to application materials and provides for donating and applying online.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Ponz to his new role. Pray specifically for Stan and Carol as they make the move from Hawaii to the Orlando area. He is anxious to hear from you and can be reached via email at [email protected] or by phone at (808) 220-8423.
Joe Alessi, Chairman
FBC Board of Trustees
Florida Bible College recently received formal notification from the IRS of the approval of their application to be classified as a 501(c)(3) corporation. While FBC had been able to receive tax-deductible contributions all along through it...s ministry partner, Maranatha Ministries, the IRS determination has made it possible for supporters to send such contributions directly to Florida Bible College. Churches and individuals who wish to support FBC have the option of mailing them directly to: Florida Bible College 35890 Maplegrove Road Willoughby Hills, OH 44094 or by using the Donate link on the www.FloridaBibleCollege.com web site. Many find the convenience of setting up recurring contributions an effective way to have their generosity expressed consistently without the hassle of mailing a paper check each month.
The academic team met on September 2nd 2014 to discuss the academic make up of Florida Bible College. From this meeting will come the foundation of the academic program for Florida Bible College. Members continue to meet via video conference on a weekly basis to construct the Florida Bible College Curriculum.

FBC alumnus and CCC Pastor, Rev. Ron Hoffmann, has been an enthusiastic supporter of the conversation, and looks forward to the impact the partnership will have on his congregation, the surrounding community, and the world, "Along with the other Circle Elders we are thrilled to welcome the official restart of Florida Bible College at our facility here in Orlando. For twenty-one years here I have been proclaiming the free grace of God in our Lord Jesus Christ and I am truly excited to be a vital part of teaching in my alma mater where I first learned of God's grace."
Florida Bible College is coming full circle and returning to its roots, having been established in 1962 in the facilities of another church, Grove Community Church, in Miami. After having temporarily ceasing operations in 1996, Florida Bible College will resume its purpose of "maturing believers in Jesus Christ into fully-committed, biblically grace-oriented, knowledgeable, articulate, balanced, evangelistic disciples who are faithful, competent, and effective in serving as the hands and feet and voice of Jesus in the world and in His church."
The trustees have set a goal of quickly raising the $250,000 needed to move the college along to the place where it can open its doors to students. Alumni and others interested in investing in the ministry of the college can make contributions at the college website. Pastor Hoffmann exhorts, "We ask that you please pray for our good God to be exalted; for our donors who will give from the joy of His indescribable love; for our students who will learn to love our gracious Lord and His Word of Truth; and for our faculty and staff who love the God of the Word as well as the Word of God."
To allow graduates to see firsthand the new home of their alma mater, the 2014 Florida Bible College Alumni Association Reunion set for the Labor Day weekend will be held at the new campus.
Several key policy decisions were finalized at the three-day meeting of the Board of Trustees during the first week of July which have been released and publicized on the FloridaBibleCollege.com web site. What is not so widely known is the faithful succession of almost weekly Trustee conference calls in the months preceding and following that face-to-face meeting. It is in these 1½- to 2½-hour meetings that the heart and passion that our Trustees have for this project is helping the rebirth of our alma mater to take shape.
Following one such meeting, the trustees were asked to share why they were so passionate about the restart of Florida Bible College. Why were they willing to commit of their time and financial resources to ensure the success of this venture? Board Chair, Joe Alessi, succinctly voiced this sentiment shared by his board colleagues, "FBC was very instrumental in changing my life path so I am very excited to be a part of the restart so we can bring that same experience to the next generation".
Similarly, John Boehm reminisced, "My time at FBC was one of great enlightenment of what it meant to give a clear Gospel message, to have a zeal for presenting that clear Gospel to the world. One of the lights for the Gospel went out when FBC closed in 1996. The youth of today desperately need that light. I have long envisioned a re-lighting of the FBC torch to re-ignite the spirit of FBC to reach the next generation with the clear Gospel of Christ, the generation of my children and my grandchildren".
Echoing and expanding on this theme was Ed Williamson, who, quoting the Spokesmen, explained, "This world is in a state of confusion, people not knowing where to turn. In these days, I am convinced that the answer to the problems of the world are very simple... the faithful, clear and bold presentation of the Gospel of Christ to a lost and blinded world. I am passionate about the restart of The Florida Bible College. Our mission is to teach and disciple believers to faithfully proclaim the Gospel of Christ. By maturing and preparing laborers for the work of the ministry, we can make a difference".
Stan Ponz made it clear that "If we confess that Jesus Christ is Savior and Lord then we will love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and mind while loving others as ourselves. And if we love others, then we will want them to come to put their faith alone in Jesus Christ and to go on to become fully obedient worshippers of God. Florida Bible College gives us the means to equip people with a biblical world-view for ministry to do this correctly, clearly, compassionately, courageously, and consistently... locally and globally!"
FBC Alumni Association founder Mels Carbonell summarized well, "I wholeheartedly recommend the restart and ministry of Florida Bible College. We need more ministries that will teach and share the gospel clearly. I sincerely encourage everyone to support this ministry for the glory of God and furtherance of the gospel. I am honored and humbled to serve as a leader, and look forward to what God is going to do through this ministry".
Please continue to pray for the Trustees as they guide the restart of Florida Bible College. Their faithful behind-the-scenes service in cultivating, planting, and watering will result in strong roots and vigorous growth, ultimately yielding a fruitful and sustained ministry for successive generations.
One of the products of their work was the adoption of the formal Purpose Statement published below.
The Purpose of Florida Bible College
Florida Bible College continues to mature believers in Jesus Christ into fully-committed, biblically grace-oriented, knowledgeable, articulate, balanced, evangelistic disciples who are faithful, competent, and effective in serving as the hands and feet and voice of Jesus in the world and in His church.
Since its inception in 1962, Florida Bible College has been committed to offering comprehensive education in the Bible for those who know Jesus Christ as Savior and who want to serve Him.
Our salvation begins with the grace of God through the clear and simple message of everlasting life by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, for the glory of God alone (Ephesian 2:8-9). It is by this same grace that, as God's workmanship, we are being refined into His image as mature disciples (Ephesians 2:10).
We are called to live in the wonderful grace and liberty in Christ, for it is in this environment of freedom that we are designed to flourish. The fruitful and victorious life of a mature disciple of Jesus Christ is not achieved or characterized by a strict adherence to a legalistic moral code or by the avoidance of a lengthy litany of prohibited behaviors.
Regardless of how He gifts us, or in what capacity He chooses to use us, by His grace we can be diligent students of His Word, and faithful evangels to the world. Florida Bible College can equip you to be an effective communicator who can share the faith in such a way that those you teach will be able to teach others. "You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." (2 Timothy 2:1, 2)
The restart of FBC has been the dream of many of its alumni for quite some time. For some, recreating the FBC they knew and loved in Miami or Hollywood or Kissimmee is what they envision. For others, the establishment of a culturally-relevant, mission-driven school that will not outwardly look like any of its previous iterations is what they see. For all, the wait has been difficult; but finally, their dream is becoming a reality.
Late last week the inaugural Board of Trustees for the official restart of Florida Bible College was seated, and last night they met for the first time to begin the process of reopening the college in the fall of 2014. The Trustees, together with the Board of Counselors, are not seeking to recreate the 60s, 70s, 80s, or 90s. They have mapped out an aggressive strategic plan to design a governance and structure that will support their vision for that Biblically grace-oriented, culturally-relevant, mission-driven school, execute a presidential search, secure an anchor campus, and locate possible satellite campuses as soon as possible.
I have been praying for a revival of the zeal and enthusiasm for reaching the lost which was the driving force at Florida Bible College that reached me with the Gospel. I am so excited that that day has arrived, said Trustee Ed Williamson. The Lord is raising up laborers for the harvest. My goal and prayer is that we will be a Light in these days proclaiming the Gospel of the Grace of God, without fear, with boldness, unashamedly because the Gospel is the Power of God unto Salvation.
Please pray for those who have assumed the leadership in this vital work: Joe Alessi, Steve Bils, John Boehm, Sandy Bohon, Birbal Boodram, Mels Carbonell, Daniel Coggins, Stephen Lewis, Wally Morillo, Bill Murphy, Mary Murphy, Stan Ponz, and Ed Williamson. For more information on these individuals and on the progress of their efforts, check the college website regularly at www.floridabiblecollege.com.
We have created an aggressive timeline for the restart of the college and will be sharing relevant information as developments progress. Please monitor the new Florida Bible College website at FloridaBibleCollege.com.
